The Bell at Sapperton is an independent, family-owned country inn with rooms, situated in the heart of the Cotswold Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Owned and run by Gloucestershire born and bred publican Peter Austen, we aim to offer great but relaxed hospitality, and our menus celebrate proper pub cooking – comforting, full of flavour and prepared with fresh seasonal and regionally sourced ingredients. We’re told there’s a smattering of magic added by the kitchen team.
For wine enthusiasts, we have a top-notch ‘Wine Wall’ in the bar area, which is a self-serve wine shop with dozens of carefully sourced wines to take away (‘Out’) or to drink here (‘In’) with a small additional charge - no matter what the bottle is - possibly the best value wines for discerning drinkers anywhere in Britain. At The Bell we specialise in creating exceptional private dining experiences and beautifully hosted events, whether you’re planning an intimate gathering or a larger celebration.
Our Garden Room (seats 8 upto 14 guests) has been described as “the Cotswolds’ best kept secret”. This elegant and intimate VIP space features a large dining table, super comfy chairs and carefully considered details, including a wood burner, candelabra, fresh flowers and crisp white linen. Room hire starts from just £75 on weekdays and £150 at weekends, with a choice of our a la carte, set, or special party menus. It’s also perfectly suited to business meetings, with high-speed Wi-Fi and a large screen is available.
For larger occasions our Covered Courtyard offers a relaxed and vibrant setting with its own bar and pizzeria. Accommodating a maximum of 50 - 60 guests, its perfect for birthdays, celebrations and of course weddings. With rave reviews, we pride ourselves on hosing events that feel distinctive and personal – offering a warm alternative to the standard hotel experience or marquee hire.
For something truly special, our VIP Private Hire option offers exclusive use of our main dining rooms (up to 44 guests) or, on a few select dates in the year, the entire pub and grounds (up to 150 guests). Exclusive use fees can be discussed as part of a meeting with our events team on site.

We’re a multi-award-winning inn, with three stylish suites, perfect for a one-night stay or a longer escape—complete with a traditional full English or continental breakfast, of course. Known across the region for great food, we stay true to what a proper pub should be: warm, welcoming, and full of character.
You’ll find us just off the A419 between Stroud and Cirencester (both around 10 minutes away), in the peaceful village of Sapperton. We’re as much a place for locals to gather as we are a destination for food lovers, wine enthusiasts, real ale fans, and those celebrating something special.
Surrounded by beautiful countryside, we’re a natural stop for walkers, cyclists, and horse riders (with horse parking available). In winter, settle in by the fire; in summer, enjoy our garden and courtyard.

Our food is always freshly prepared by the team, using local and regional produce whenever the seasons allow.
The Bell kitchen team - making it happen
We pride ourselves on using some of the most wonderful ingredients the Cotswolds region has to offer, straight to your plate. Our lamb and venison are usually no more than a field or two away and we warmly invite our hard-working local producers, brewers and farmers to pop in and meet us! Lovers of good wine will love our innovative ‘Wine Wall’ which is our wine shop in the front bar. These are mostly bottles we’ve sourced ourselves (from our own arduous wine travels around the world) and they don’t have the usual horrible restaurant mark-ups. Instead, we sell all our Wine Wall wines with just an extra £10 to £20 to drink in with your meal. Wine lovers will be hard pushed to find a better deal anywhere else. Happy quaffing! In addition to the Wine Wall, we always have over 20 delicious still and sparkling wines by the glass.
